The origins of Shiseido’s corporate culture magazine Hanatsubaki date back to 1937. Over the past nine decades, the publication has become a fixture of the culture landscape, combining beauty content with stories from the worlds of fashion, art, food and literature.
For the Spring 2020 issue, which centred on the theme of “Save the beauty of earth”, I guest edited a section discussing what sustainability means today and its influence on the world as we know it. In addition to the lead text, I compiled a selection of case studies showing brands, communities and cities taking direct action to create a better world, addressing issues such as climate change, waste management and ocean plastic.
